Parents often ask…

1 Are group classes lower quality than private lessons?
Not at Island Music School! Our MusicPro LIVE! Academy is built around small-group instruction, individualized guidance, and collaborative music-making. Students develop their individual musical abilities while learning essential skills that traditional private lessons alone may not provide, including listening, timing, teamwork, communication, musical independence, and performance confidence.

Our four Academy programs are designed to support students at different stages of development, from building musical foundations in MusicPro Studio I and Studio II to participating in performing bands through MusicPro LIVE! and LIVE! Elite.

For students needing additional individual attention, optional private coaching may be available as an add-on exclusively for students enrolled in the Academy. Adult students ages 18 and older may also inquire about private instruction. More than music lessons. Become part of a music community!
2 Do students actually get to perform?
Absolutely! Live performance is an important part of the MusicPro LIVE! Academy experience. We believe students should have opportunities to apply what they learn, share their progress, and experience the excitement of making music with others.

MusicPro Studio I & Studio II students participate in age-appropriate performances and showcases that celebrate their musical growth, developing confidence in a supportive environment.

MusicPro LIVE! & LIVE! Elite students work toward live band performances, community events, and larger showcases. Students gain real-world experience with rehearsals, stage preparation, teamwork, and performing for live audiences.

Our Academy performance calendar includes school showcases and opportunities at community venues throughout the Florida Keys. Specific events and participation depend on the student's program, readiness, and the confirmed performance schedule. Our goal is to develop confident musicians who are prepared to perform, collaborate, and create music beyond the classroom.
3 What ages do you teach?
Island Music School offers music education for students ages 7–18, as well as adults ages 18 and older.

Our MusicPro LIVE! Academy includes four programs designed around age, musical experience, and readiness:

MusicPro Studio I: For younger beginners developing foundational music skills, rhythm, note reading, and instrument exploration.

MusicPro Studio II: For developing musicians ready to expand their instrumental skills, music reading, and ensemble experience.

MusicPro LIVE!: Generally for students ages 9 and older who already have foundational musical knowledge and are ready for a performing band environment. Younger students may be considered following a free in-person teacher evaluation.

MusicPro LIVE! Elite: For advanced students ready for greater musical challenges, leadership, performance opportunities, and mentorship.

Adults 18+: Private music instruction is available for adult beginners and experienced musicians, subject to scheduling availability. Students are placed according to their musical development and readiness, not age alone.
4 What instruments can my child learn?
Our programs introduce students to a variety of instruments and musical skills, including piano, keyboard, guitar, bass, drums, percussion, ukulele, and voice.

MusicPro Studio I emphasizes foundational musicianship through keyboard, rhythm instruments, percussion, singing, and creative musical activities.

MusicPro Studio II expands into piano, ukulele, drum kit, and introductory rock-band instruments, while developing stronger music-reading and ensemble skills.

MusicPro LIVE! and LIVE! Elite focus on developing instrumental and vocal abilities in a band setting, including rehearsals, songwriting, arranging, and live performance. We encourage musical exploration while helping students develop the skills needed to play confidently with others.
5 How does practice work at home?
We use the Spond app to keep MusicPro LIVE! Academy families connected and support students' musical development between classes.

Through their class-specific Spond group, families can access practice materials, instructional videos, music resources, band setlists, and at-home assignments shared by our instructors throughout the year.

Students are encouraged to practice regularly at home to reinforce what they learn in class, develop their musical skills, build confidence, and prepare for rehearsals and performances.

Spond also serves as our primary platform for class announcements, schedules, upcoming events, and family communication. Enrolled families receive a separate invitation to join their class-specific Spond group.
